TrueOMEGA contains a mixture of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) fish oils. This product contains higher levels of DHA than EPA. Much of the gray matter of the brain is made up of fat, specifically the omega-3 fatty acid DHA. DHA has been found in studies to protect and maintain healthy brain cell function because of its important role in forming the protective covering (myelin) around nerves. Daily oral supplementing of DHA has been shown to increase blood levels of DHA, to protect myelin and to improve the signaling of chemical messages between nerve cells in the brain. This often improves the symptoms of some mental and visual disorders. DHA fish oils have also been found to significantly improve the symptoms of ADD/ADHD in children.

Fish oils in general can be used to treat a variety of conditions including asthma, arthritis and colitis, as well as lupus, depression, cystic fibrosis and schizophrenia. Consumption of omega-3s has also been credited with lowering the risk of heart attack or developing cardiovascular disease.

Health Canada recommends 1.4 grams of omega-3s daily—the equivalent of two servings of dark, fatty fish a week, or approximately 1.5 capsules. Not only do the capsules contain high concentrations of beneficial fatty acids, but they are also cleaner than the fish they came from. Even a relatively toxin-free wild fish has the same PCB content as about 20 capsules. You would need to take more than 300 fish oil capsules to be exposed to the amount of PCBs in a single serving of farmed salmon! And fish oil capsules contain about 30 times the amount of the key omega-3s as a single fish meal. In 2003, sales of fish oil capsules jumped 58%!
