A complex of B vitamins has been included because they are essential for reducing homocysteine levels. Homocysteine is an amino acid which, if elevated (optimally levels are less than seven), is an indicator of the risk of heart disease.

High levels of coenzyme Q10, an antioxidant, are naturally found in the heart muscle; however, levels tend to decline as we age. Coenzyme Q10 supplements are found to be beneficial in the treatment of cardiomyopathies (a group of diseases that affect the heart muscle), heart arrhythmias, cholesterol levels and angina. Coenzyme Q10 appears to increase the heart’s tolerance to a lack of oxygen.
